We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Barberstown. From the moment we checked in, through to the fabulous dinner to the moment we checked out we were met with very helpful, friendly and efficient staff. We plan to return again in the coming months.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and comfortable and the food significantly exceeded expectations, being both innovative and delicious. However it was the warm, good humoured and attentive staff who really made our short visit memorable. Barberstown Castle is a gem, we look forward to returning.

This was a special stay for me. It was both my 50th birthday, and also the first time I had stayed in the hotel where I had my wedding some 26 years ago, on the same date (birthday 22 June, wedding 23 June 1990), albeit with a different partner! The hotel had changed substantially, however it retains its special atmosphere. I loved it! However, I do have a few pointers that would perhaps be of interest to you. These will explain the star ratings where I have given 4/5 instead of a clean 5/5. Although the decor is wonderful throughout, and we were delighted with our room, I feel that the bathroom could benefit from updating. I presume it is not unique in having the shower in the bath, and in this day and age, and in a hotel of this standard, and quite expensive, I would have expected and preferred a stand-alone shower. At the very least the bath should have a solid glass shower guard, rather than an inefficient curtain. Inevitably the floor ends up soaked. Equally unacceptable is the fact that there is not a mixer tap in the sink (also in the public toilets), as the hot tap is unacceptably hot. Imagine a child being sent to wash their hands. It is a shame that we hardly encountered an Irish member of staff throughout our stay. Although I must stress that all the staff were friendly and capable, I feel it would have been nice to be treated to some of our famous Irish hospitality. Finally, a small point. I was treated to a large bouquet of flowers for my birthday, from my sister, who after contacting reception staff by email, had them sent to the hotel. They arrived while we were absent from the room, and we found them in our room on our return. However, in spite of them being wrapped in a water ball for survival, the person who delivered them left them lying on their side in the room, which meant the flowers had been starved of water for several hours. This is a small detail, but one which I feel a hotel of such standing should easily have been able to deal with better. I also feel it would have been very pleasant if my birthday had been acknowledged, even with a little welcome note in our room. Again, it's just a little thing for staff to take on board for the benefit of other guests in the future. I do hope to have the opportunity to return to Barberstown again at some stage in the future.
